VCON is the oldest general-interest science fiction, fantasy, and games convention in Canada and the Pacific Northwest that has promoted the interests of science fiction and fantasy culture in Vancouver BC and its environs since 1971, offering events and exhibits focused on a variety of Science Fiction and Fantasy fandom interest areas such as literature, art, media, music, costumes, comics, tabletop games, electronic games, etc. For more detailed information visit our website: www.vcon.ca.

This year’s convention’s theme is "Relax...", as in "Relax ... with a good book, ... with a great game, ... with beautiful art, ... with food and drink, ... with a blockbuster movie, ... with an engaging discussion, ... with friends, both old and new!"

Our panel discusses the rise and sometimes fall of the strong female protagonist in speculative fiction - where myth meets reality, and both the steps forward and leaps back. At what point does our demand for female representation lead to truly original breakthroughs and when does it create yet another unattainable vision of what it means to be a leading female in speculative fiction?
